Over the weekend my youngest son, Jacob, wanted to do a little more fishing and needed some bait. On our way to the bait store I noticed a yard sale and slammed on the brakes and turned around. Jacob thought he was going to die in the truck, but I had it all under control. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

I thought I only had a few dollars cash on me, but you never know what they might have for a dollar, right?

I found a great little Coke glass for a quarter! Feeling pretty good about my bargain, I was about to leave.

I asked Jacob if he saw anything he liked. He was staring at a tea pot, and said he thought it was pretty nice. Well, I’ve never had a silver tea pot, and I did think it was nice. But, I really thought she was going to want quite a bit for it. Jacob continued on to say he thought I would like it and he even had a couple dollars in his pocket. He was so sweet about it, and I didn’t realize why at first. He’s a 10 year old boy that’s not really into tea parties!

Then he mentioned that it was the kind of tea pot that Johnny Tremain made around the time of the American Revolution.

Oh, that explained it all! Johnny Tremain is a wonderful book about a young apprentice silversmith that is caught up in the Boston Tea Party and the American Revolution.

Jacob was looking at the beauty of the tea pot and thinking about how silversmiths used to work so hard to make such beautiful pieces for wealthy families.

Now, I REALLY wanted it! She said it was five dollars for each piece {she had 5 pieces}, but I needed to check my purse for money! As I was doing that she saw Jacob taking two crumbled dollars out of his pocket to pay, and she lowered the price to eight for the two we wanted without even asking. {I should take him with me all the time!} It turned out I had enough money, and Jacob got to keep his for bait!

We have a wonderful tea pot and sugar bowl for tea time, and something to remind us of a wonderful book we read together.

For all the homeschoolers out there, this is one of the books in Sonlight curriculum. We are studying American History right now, and we have enjoyed every book we’ve read!

Victoria at Auction Girl Vintage is having a fun little Junkin’ Party this month! Stop by and see what’s in everyone’s trunk! Take a look around her beautiful blog and you’ll find tons of beautiful treasures. She has a knack for garage sale shopping!

Did ya’ll notice my pink shirt reflecting in the tea pot? I couldn’t take a photo without showing up in it!!! How do you take photos of shiny things? Any tips?
