Welcome to Our Backyard!

Welcome to our backyard!

This is one of my favorite spots! See the chair on the left? Tim made it just for me as a Mother’s Day gift a couple years ago. I love to sit in this chair with a good book…it’s so big and comfy! I can even pull my feet up in it!

What about that chair on the right? Well, that was made by A.J. as a Father’s Day gift for Tim a few years ago. A.J. is 14 now, but he was maybe 11 or so when he made it with his Grandpa. Wasn’t that sweet?

The days have been getting nicer and nicer around here. I’ve been trimming my poor plants that were brown from the cold, and adding new flowers in pots.

There’s nothing like a splash of colorful flowers to brighten your mood!

Tim built this wonderful deck about four years ago, and it still looks great! It has a wonderful curved edge that I’ll have to share with you one day.

He’s done so much to our backyard! This is where we entertain, and grilled food is Tim’s specialty. Paper plates are usually involved. Not fancy, but fun and relaxed!

Tim built a cool Tiki Bar in the corner of our yard! He has all the photos of it on his blog…Remodeling Guy! {You’ve got to see them!} It’s a great part of our backyard, and we’ve had lots of awesome food sitting at the bar. {Does it always come back to food around here or what?}

I’ll tell you something funny about one of the pink pots above…yes, I spray painted them…but that’s not the whole story.

sprayed pots

I was spray painting my clay pots because I’m cheap like that to make them all bright and pretty. I love my spray paint!

I was running out of pots for the flowers I bought. I usually have tons of clay pots, but they all have some type of vegetable growing in them right now. {I had more seeds than garden!}

Tim thought I should just spray the pot it came in…Hmmmm!

I grabbed my can of spray paint and a Sea Grape leaf. {I’m sure paper would work as well!}

What did I have to lose if it didn’t work out? So…I sprayed.

Ta Da! I couldn’t believe how good it turned out! You would really have to check it out up close to know it wasn’t a nicer pot. That works for me!

I even painted a coconut…I must be nuts…maybe it’s the fumes!

Spring is in the air and the spray paint’s everywhere!  :-)

Your yard is so beautiful! It’s still chilly and dreary here, so it’s wonderful to see some color! That is a great idea Tim had to spray paint that pot. It came out really nice!

Shannon April 15, 2009 at 7:55 am

You are so clever, painting the ugly pot the plant comes in. Ingenious! Your backyard is an oasis. It would definitely be one of my favorite places too!

I love your backyard! So perfect in FL. You gave me a much-needed idea on how to decorate my front porch for the summer with that coconut! Right now I have potted ferns and impatiens, with my spring dragonfly plaques on the wall and my two adorable bunnies perched by the front door. I was trying to find a “theme” for summer. After seeing that ADORABLE painted coconut I think I’ll do a beachy/paradise theme. Thanks for the great inspiration, as always! =)

What a great little spot you have there. If I had a great place to sit and relax like that, I’d probably never get a thing done around my house on a nice day. It’s so cheery and springy!

It all looks so pretty and relaxing! Spray painting that pot was a stroke of genius :) Dh & I live in an apartment and I always struggle with patio container gardens and storing the pots after season. This is perfect!

What a great idea Kim, I would never have thought to paint the pots they come in! Now THAT’S frugal! Now about that coconut, you’re right, it’s a little nutty! :)

Kim, what a cute backyard. Love those brightly colored chairs! And all the other painted things too. i’ve painted clay pots before, but the paint always comes off if they are outside. Good idea to paint the plastic, that works! I’ve got to get busy and buy some flowers.
