I love looking through decorating blogs with beautiful house photos!
Everything is arranged perfectly to express themselves and make their guests feel welcomed! Love it!
Well, My home never seems to get quite there! My children help with the decorating around here. I love it! But, it never looks like a magazine cover, that’s for sure!
We have a wooden boat made by Jacob and Tim. It’s too special to put anywhere it wouldn’t been seen by all that enter our home!
There’s a carved styrofoam fish made by AJ that warms my heart when I look at it. The creativity that is in him is beautiful!
Shell frames made years ago by the kids with photos of them at the beach. Priceless!

This is my “tablescape” to welcome guests as they come in the front door!
It was boring before the Star Wars Legos moved in! I don’t know how long it will stay this way, but I don’t have the heart to move Jacob’s creation anytime soon.
Here’s something that the boys decorated my kitchen with this morning…

This won’t be staying around in my sink for long! Tim will take care of it later!
Maybe one day I’ll have a room that looks like a magazine, but for now we’ll just stick to decorating with love!
What kind of interesting decorations do you have?

You’re not alone sister. I can fake a clean house in photos, but most of the time my son’s shoes somehow end up in the middle of the hallway, his school newspapers are strewn on the coffee table, and he looooves to leave empty glasses of gatorade around the house. I don’t think I’d have it any other way though. That’s the stuff that makes a house a home….although, your son’s art projects a just a TAD better than empty glasses around the house

Hey Good Lookin’!
I just wanted to say that I LOVE the way you decorate our house! It’s been that way for so long that I sometimes don’t notice. But I really think you do a great job of making all of us feel special by making a “big deal” out of our junk and toys and fish!

I think your home shows love and family, the most important things. That green cabinet is to. die. for!

Kim,
What a sweet comment by your honey…awww.
Magazines have nothing on us…we have real people living in our homes! The houses we see are all staged anyway. When the cameras leave those folks go right back to living like real people again too…as they should.

Hey,,,,,,those are my BRILLIANT, CREATIVE, ARTISTIC boys your talkin’ about!
Sincerely, I LOVE the way you take LIFE and mix it with LOVE and make your home look beautiful! The way that you take a dinosaur and make it look good on a living room table truly needs to be in a magazine!!
Just my opinion…..
Keep it up girl!

I think your decorating style is perfect, because it’s perfect for you! And you’re family obviously loves it. Great pictures!

I have the same Wish Upon A Star plaque. Never thought I would see another one of those on the net. I think your decorations are quite lovely.

I don’t have kids to help out, yet, but I do have cats who have an opinion about where things should be. Or, more specifically, opinions about where thing’s shouldn’t be.

Lots of “love” in my home too as not one day goes by without at least one of my girls creating something! I love the little surprises and gifts waiting for me all through our home.

Homes are for living – I say. And your home looks well-loved. I can relate to both the lego sculptures and the treasures in the sink. I’m right there with ya!
Your kids have a great sense of style ! And so do you

Okay, the fish in the sink seriously caught me off guard. I love your table scape, though. It’s very cute and very family-friendly.

Haha!! The fish in the sink is great! My bro-in-law left a squirrel tail in the sink (after skinning the rest) for mom-in-law to find later! LOL!!
Love to see evidence that a family really lives in and loves their home! You HAVE to keep and display the treasures that your kids make so lovingly!! We have drawings and art thingy’s galore usually decorating our home in various places, but not so much now that it’s up for sale. Also wanted to tell you that I love that hutch in the 1st pic — it’s fabulous!
I’ll definitely add the Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwiches to Tasty Tuesday!

I hate perfect, sparkling clean houses. I don’t like even going into those places. I would be sure to spill something, break something, whatever.
My house is far from perfect, but friends and family feel comfortable here and visit often.

I love this! It is so true that we try to make our homes all decorated and perfect, but since we actually have to live in them (with our families) they don’t really come across as perfect to others. As long as they suit our and our families personalities that is really all that matters.
I remember a friend of mine telling a story about how when there was a holiday or something her mom would have all the kids frantically clean the house to get it all ready. My friend always asked her mom “they know we live here, that’s why they are coming over so why do we have to make it look like we don’t?” So true….we do live in our homes and they should reflect it.
I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Amen! The kids “decorations” are the best! My daughter used Barbie pants as a window treatment one day and I had to share it with the world!

Years ago I listened to a speaker and her message has stayed with me…that our homes tell a story. What story would your home tell if people walked in off the street? That you have a home filled with love and family. What better story would we want our homes to reveal? I hope my home tells the same story.

That tablescape cracks me up!! It must go with the name because my Jacob makes these set-ups all of the time! They are all over the house all of the time! They are maddening and heart warming at the same time.

Thanks for sharing your “true” decorating photos. It wouldn’t be normal around my house without a My Little Pony or story book hidden behind a lamp or gracing the stairway. I wouldn’t have it any other way, either. Becki

I just stumbled upon your blog and saw this entry, LOVE it! I too have a Jacob that has more legos than should be legal. He is WAY into Bionicles these days, and it has long been a sore spot for me that I can’t get him to keep his room clean. When we bought this house I painted it and put up these fantastic steel shelves (he wanted an industrial look, again, Bionicles, need I say more?).
This post helped me to understand I’m not alone and this IS only temporary. Our babes will be grown up faster than we would wish, and then we’ll be trying so hard to remember all of those fantastic lego creations they used to make. Thanks for sharing – most of us only share the pretty photos – I’m glad you were brave enough to share the lego pics too!

My husband would DIE if he saw your son’s creation. We have an entire Star Wars room that is his “Man Cave” and there are several Star Wars lego creations in here. Yes, my husband is 3o years old. Ha! He might think I was the bestest wife in the world if I decorated the living room with his delicate labors of love!
Off to look around your blog some more!
