Daily Thanks – Small Things

Emily at Chatting at the Sky has a wonderful blog full of inspiring posts for moms. Yesterday she was talking about being thankful for the little things that we might not notice on a daily basis. You know, the things that happen that we don’t even think about for more than a few seconds; things that really went our way. While we sometimes {maybe more than sometimes} tend to dwell on small things that went wrong, and remember them for days. Hmmmm…It doesn’t take a scientific study to conclude which is better, does it?

So, today we are sharing moments that might have passed unoticed or unappreciated. Stopping to be thankful for the small, everyday blessings is sure to brighten your day.

We’ve just returned from a wonderful long weekend in The Keys, but we had to come home a little earlier than planned because I wasn’t feeling well. I’m feeling very thankful for my home to come home to. The comfortable surroundings made me feel better within moments of arriving.

The vegetables and herbs we’ve planted have grown so much over the last few days. I’m thankful for the ability to grow our own food, and watch my son’s delight with the success of his hard work building the beds and planting.

In the middle of some hard work outside, being done by Tim, I noticed the beautiful blue sky that we had today. That’s a blessing that sometimes goes unappreciated until there’s a few days of rain.

A quote from Emily’s post…

“A thankful heart does not come easy or for free. Some of the most deeply cultivated hearts of thankfulness belong to people who may have endured much suffering or those who seem to me to have little to be thankful for in this world.”

Without the rain we wouldn’t be able to enjoy a beautiful rainbow!

Be joyful always;  pray continually;  give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thess. 16-18

What an excellent post Kim! I’ve been learning so much about true, godly thankfulness lately. God allows trials in our lives for our good and for His Glory! (Rom 8:28) I can’t say that I always, or even ever respond to trials with thankfulness, but I’m learning to not be so anxious for the trials to go away, because of what they produce in my own life and character. So, while of course I’m thankful for my precious family – I have a WONDERFUL husband and precious girls – I’m also thankful for the trials that shape me and make me more like Him.

I too am grateful for my wonderful husband and great kids. I feel blessed to have these few months where we are able to have some real quality time together!
I’m very thankful that God is so faithful even when I am not and that life is full of everyday blessings and lessons if we choose to recognize them.

A few years ago, I started keeping a pretty little notebook that I call my Happy Book. I write things big or small that cheer my heart and otherwise keep perspective on raising 4 small people. It doubles as a reminder of all the things I have to be grateful for and how truely blessed I am.

Kim, I love this! What beautiful photos and heartfelt words. Thanks for linking up to share them with all of us. And you are so right: it is easy to remember those little pesky things that happen. I have to be intentional if I want to remember the blessings. Great post…and those herbs make me want to go cook!

Hope you are all better by now. What a beautiful example of cherishing the small things and showing honor to your hubby and son. Is the ocean picture from your trip to the Keys? It’s breathtaking. :)

This is a wonderful post. I especially love that verse from Thessalonians. I felt myself relax tangibly while reading it. Thanks taking the time to post it. I came over from emily’s. I wanted to link my post for today but am not seeing Mr. Linky on this computer. :( I’m gonna try another one later. I look forward to reading more about your travels, etc. I have a “travel Tuesday” feature on my blog. Kelly

God created us so it is no surprise that He knows what is best for us, but when I follow the verses that tell me to rejoice in all things and focus on the good, I really do feel happier! Thanks for sharing this Kim, I hope you are feeling better!
