Sometimes we enjoy our coffee on the back porch in the morning, and this is what we see…

Quaker Parrots!
You can hear them as they fly all around in the morning. They are rather loud, but I love the sounds from these sweet little birds!
Quaker Parrots (sometimes called Monk Parrots) live in some southern areas like ours. They are just down the street living in three large palm trees. Tourists are always stopping in their tracks when they see them sitting there!

Quaker Parrots can live 25-30 years and have unique nest building skills! Tons of them live in each tree, like a little hotel! To find out more about these neat birds visit quakerparrots.com!

These guys were hanging out on the wire this morning. I bet they’re planning their day, or maybe their breakfast plans.

Quaker Parrots have such a cute personality. They zoom all around the area in large groups just talking away!
Parrots and palm trees in the morning just make you feel like you’re living in a tropical paradise!
I’m so glad I could share the beauty of these birds with you this morning for Outdoor Wednesday at A Southern Daydreamer!

Kim, I love your parrots and their wildness living in a palm tree. We lived in South Fl. near a parrot farm and we too could see gorgeous parrots from time to time. I do believe they flew back to the Parrot Jungle at night. Hurricane Andrew all but destroyed the Parrot Jungle which was a tourist attraction in Coral Gables, Fl.
Loved your post today.

How fun to see the parrots from your back porch. They really can make some noise, can’t they. I’m always surprised to see them in flight with there wings looking so pointed…

I like your attitude about life. Some people would think the parrots are a nuisance but you even imagine what they’re talking about. Too cute! What a great way to view our world!

Oh, how I love these! We had a colony of parrots (I think they might have been Carolina Parrots… maybe Quaker) in St. Augustine who used to periodically land in our trees, but they seemed to have all but vanished. Haven’t seen them in a while. Loved seeing yours, though! Thanks for this neat post!
XO,
Sheila

How cool is that! I would be one of the tourists stopping dead to look at the parrots. I had no idea parrots could live anywhere but rain forests and bird cages! You learn something new every day!

I am glad you love those parrots. We call the Monk parakeets here & the local story is that they escaped from a pet shop owner & just kept multiplying. They build their nest in all the transformers here. Sent all the PETA people crazy here last year when the local electric co. had to remove many of the nests because of the damage they were causing. They are very noisy though so I am glad none have decided to take up residence in our neighborhood. I prefer to enjoy them in small doses. =-) I came over from your husbands site. Ours is the house in CT that he is working on. I have been wanting to ask for details on how you painted that piano. We got one off freecycle last year & I have been looking at it just wondering how difficult it would be to paint or restain. I would love to hear how you did yours!
Such cute birds…I lived in Florida for 7 years and never saw one in the palms….all I ever saw was snakes and gators….Main reason why we moved farther North! Sue.

I never knew about these parrots — or that they’re native in Florida! Living further north than you, I find that amazing! I’d love to hear them sing
