I’m stuck on spray paint!
I use it on just about anything that needs a little “SOMETHING” !
I’ve even used it on coconuts!
One of the reasons I love spray paint is because it’s so easy to change something from boring to “WOW” in just a few minutes! I don’t have time to sit and watch paint dry!
I painted this sign in 5 minutes!
I’ll show you how you can change the way something looks without all the mess and time that goes along with other paints. No stir sticks and brush cleaning around here! All you need is spray paint, a drop cloth, and 10 minutes!
Here is how I did it:
Here’s a sign that I bought last week. It’s nice, but it wouldn’t really look right around my house. I planned on painting it from the start. When I see something I like in the store, I know that I can change the color without much fuss. That makes shopping sales, yard sales, and thrift stores more fun!
Start by finding a nice spot outside and get your paint and drop cloth ready. Set up your object in the center.
Choose your color, or colors. I’m using two today, but see the “Smile” sign at the end of the post for an example of using LOTS of color.
Spray it lightly all over, making sure you get each side that will be visible. Check it from all angles, and spray again. (You do want to make sure that you’re not too close to your work and that you spray LIGHTLY! This will keep you from having any problems with runs in the paint.) Let it dry. Well, if you’re only using one color…you’re done!
I used my second color on the bottom half spraying on an angle to help with the shading. I usually only wait a couple of minutes between colors.
Let it dry…it’s as easy as that!
Don’t be afraid to experiment with color in your house or yard! There’s really no wrong or right way to spray paint. And if you don’t like it you only need a few minutes to try out another color!
Get the good stuff!
Check out these great new colors…I love the names!!! Key Lime, Watermelon, and Berry Pink!
I found out the hard way about buying the cheapest paint out there. So, here’s my favorite…Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch! You don’t need two coats to get the vivid colors, and it’s great on metal! Low quality paint takes more coats and the colors aren’t as bright. Spray paint is way less expensive than buying a quart of paint that you might only use once! Oh, and you don’t have to wait at the paint department for them to mix it up!

Paint Everything!
This is one of my many starfish that I’ve painted and stuck somewhere in the yard. They’re inexpensive and I don’t worry about the hot sun ruining them.

I decorate outside and inside with spray paint. Here’s a sign that’s in my kitchen.

RELAX, SMILE, and spray something today! Before you know it…you’ll be stuck on spray paint, too!

Thanks for the inspiration and perhaps motivation to spray paint several little goodies I have around the house here: a wooden footstool, a one drawer table (like PB, only free!), my dining room chairs, a child’s chair I use in the bathroom… Love the colors! I already have “key lime” and “raspberry.”
Glad I found your blog! Thanks Julia.

I was always so bad with spray paint when I was younger. You’re tempting me now… I want to try again. You make it look so fun and beautiful! (Now I have to figure out how to find it in Germany… hmm)

Your signs are so cheerful! I’m with you – spray paint is one of the best inventions ever!
Oh, oh…you caught my attention with that super fabulous blue starfish…, huge starfish it seems. Love it and want one too.
How fun is that? I tend to shy away from all things crafty, but if I start with something cheap, then even if I mess it up, it won’t be a costly failure.
Thanks for instilling confidence while inspiring! The color sure is motivating this time of year where I live, where everything feels gray.
Thanks for visiting!

The only thing I’ve ever painted in my house are the black kitchen chairs. I bought them unfinished- new I wanted an “old” look so I just spray painteted them black before sanding off spots. After reading this post though, you bet your bottom dollar I will have many more spray paint stories to share in the coming year!

You did such a great job with those signs. I use a ton of spray paint too. It’s amazing how you can revitalize just about anything in just a few minutes. My favorite new tool is one I bought at Home Depot….it clips on the top of your spray paint can and turns it into a handle sprayer…it cost only about $7 and it totally saves your finger!! It also helps control the can so much easier so you get a smoother finish. Do you use one of those too?

How super fun is this? I really need to do this sometime. I know that spray paint can be my friend, but I tend to think of it more for graffiti.

I forgot to ask, do you prefer a certain brand of spray paint? I’ve using the $1 paint from Walmart for some of my stuff, but was wondering if I needed to get a different brand for my porch furniture? I’ll be using Rustoleum for my kitchen chairs and table in Heirloom White.
